UNION Brasserie, Bakerie & Bar PIM

I'm going to review one of my favorite diner which also happen to be on of the 'Hippiest' hang out places in Jakarta. Its main diner first opened in Plaza Senayan. I went there for three times and those three times I have to get in the waiting list before I could enjoy my meals.

And once you get the table, the place would only give you about two hour and fifteen minutes to sit and hang out before you get kicked out! Lol. Yeaah it's a bummer! But still people still loovve to eat there.

About couple months ago UNION opened its second branch in Pondok Indah Mall Street Gallery (The new extension from PIM). And I just can't hold my desire to try the place :D

The new place is a lot more spacious than the one in PS *more comfortable also for me*. The place was really packed that afternoon. And of course, I still had to get on the waiting list before I could get a table for two, well it was only for 15 minutes, so it's okay. UNION PIM has indoor and semi-outdoor area, and it's all smoking area. So the non-smokers have to deal with that (Ugh!)

One of the things I love about UNION are their wide selections of bakery and cake, Esp. their CRONUT! :D So, on my visit in UNION PIM I (still had to) ordered their Cinnamon Sugar Flaky Doughnut.

Cinnamon Sugar Flaky Doughnut (35K)

For the mains, I meant to try their pizza, but I'm curious with their Burger (so, pizza would definitely on my list for the next visit! :P) The Union burger (90K) served with fries, the beef patty was pretty thick but not that tasty. Well, it was a good one but nothing really special about it.

UNION BURGER, BACON, AGED CHEDDAR, FRIES 90. W/ FOIE GRAS (90K)

As for the beverages I tried their coffee and some refreshing drinks to complete my meals.

Mine was Fresh Lime Juice (25K) which was really fresh! and for Mr. A he opted for the Red Spinach Smoothies (55K) which a combination of Fresh Orange, Red spinach leaves, Cranberry juice, palm sugar and fresh lemon squeeze, it  was really refreshing for the sunny afternoon

Humming Bird Eatery

Last weekend I had lunch with my family after spending all morning shopping :D

We were just hanging around at Kuningan City and decided to had lunch there, we chose to try 'Hummingbird Eatery' that day.

They have a wide variety of menu selection for the main course. From Western, Pasta, Oriental (including Indonesian food) and pretty much side dishes and appetizer to choose from. That sunny day we opted for these foods:

Spicy Volcano Tuna (44.5K)
The Tuna comes with a very spicy taste, really suits my liking for spicy thing! The pasta was al dente, but the amount of tuna was as not much as I expected. The mozzarella cheese on top was a bit of a garnish, I can't really taste the cheese all over the dish. But all in all, it was a great dish and it comes with a pretty big portion!

Mushroom Aglio Olio (54.5K)
My mom ordered this dish, She liked it, tho' she said she liked my pasta more :D The pasta was al dente too, it served with some sauce (sorry forgot the name) so it's not really aglio olio for me, lots of mushrooms and topped with pan-fried dory. It was also came in a big portion and the dory will made your tummy even more FULL!

Oriental Fried Rice ( 36.5K)
My dad as a very conservative man, always order fried rice no matter where he eats :P But I tell you what, This Fried rice is reallly good! Taste exactly like a hawker fried rice! Served with Ebi, shredded eggs and fried chicken and shrimp cracker. It was good!

Chicken Mushroom Quesadillas (42.5K)
I chose this as a side dish or appetizer, but this dish came in last after all our tummy full! So I only gave it one shot and had to take it home. It served with guacamole, salsa sauce and sour cream. The quesadillas filled with mozzarella cheese, mushrooms and diced chicken. IMO, the mushrooms filling was a bit too much.

Orange Juice (18K)
As for the drinks I opted for Orange Juice, it was just a plain orange juice (not a fresh one). Just like any other juice you can find in the market.

Overall, the main course was good and the portion really suits Indonesian belly! The service also good. The price comes with a proper portions for the food. I say it's nice place to go for a lunch break at work or just to hang out with friends for a light meals.

The Kronut Kingdom!

Welcome to the battle of Kronut! It was first made by chef Dominic Ansel in Soho, New York. The Cronut fever doesn't only stop in New York. It has been spread all over the world, including Jakarta.

The craze in Indonesia is not as spectacular as it is in NewYork, where people need to stand in a long line to get their hands on this half croissant - half doughnut thingy. There are few places in Jakarta if you curious about this half croissant - half doughnut thingy.

One of the first bakery in town who made the breakthrough was The Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop by Mandarin Oriental Hotel Jakarta. I paid my first visit there three months ago. Well, I came innocently without knowing that I had to make an order first few hours before I could enjoy the Cronut. But God was on my side that day, because the time I went there there was a customer who canceled their order. So I could have the two Cronuts without ordering them first :) Lucky me!

I ate them right after unboxing the cake, and my oh my. It was melted right thru my tongue! It as Delicious!! The cream filling, the texture and the crunchiness from the top layer. Oh I was in love at the first bite!! :D

After few months, I heard that some other cake shop and cafe in J-Town starting to serve Cronut. So I took a visit at the two places, UNION and PUBLICO.

These pictures below were Union's Cronut (They don't put the name "Cronut" in their menu, but just ask the waiter at the bakery right in the front of the cafe entrance). They have some flavors for the cronut, but I only tried one, it was the classic one I guess. The filling wasn't as creamy as The Mandarin Oriental Cronut, but the top layer was crunchier and its was sprinkled by cinnamon sugar. (Well, I like Union's cronut more! IMHO)

In Publico, they also served two - three flavors of cronut, I did try the chocolate one. You have to order them first like two - three hours before you can take the cronut. The Chocolate cronut was more of a creamy bread. I can't really taste the 'croissant' in it, so it was more like a chocolate cream doughnut and a bit too sweet I guess. Maybe the other two flavors are better, I'll definitely going to try 'em next time.
